Shashi has been working with and learning from children with autism and other disabilities since 2011. She started Leap Years – Learning Centre for children with autism and other developmental delays in 2015. Leap Years has since come to be known for quality learning in an affordable and affable environment.

Shashi started as a journalist in 1996 and worked with leading media houses like Indian Express and the Times Group for 10 years. And took to child development and early education in 2006 when motherhood took over and family assumed priority. She trained to be a special educator with a PG diploma in Special Education (Autism) from KPAMRC, Bangalore. Before starting Leap Years, she helped set up other special education schools and took special education home to several children by creating home programs and helping parents set up structured learning environments at home.

With Master’s degrees in Mass communication and Journalism and Clinical Psychology, she is a strong advocate of life-long learning. She is a certified Master Trainer and conducts train-the-trainer programs for UNDP in Bangalore Rural district and NGOs in the agri-sector.

Besides Leap Years, she is associated with Hank Nunn Institute, an NGO making mental health services available and affordable to all; and is a resource person with Bhoomiputri, an NGO that supports women entrepreneurs in agriculture.

She describes herself as a full-time special educator, a part-time writer, an almost-retired journalist and an aspiring farmer.

S Anees Ahmed is an accomplished marketing professional who has invested his time and energy into the social service sector as well for over a decade. He has helped set up and run a learning centre for children with autism and other special needs.

Anees continues to fulfill his professional duties of country management, P&L responsibilities, sales and marketing activities for KADS Associates, a Bangalore-based media and marketing services provider. He has extended administrative as well as programme assistance to several NGOs for their government compliance, registration, certifications and other such needs.

He has extensive experience of working with corporates across industry sectors such as IT, Pharma, Hospitality, Textile, Healthcare and government/public services for close to three decades in his professional role.

An active member of the local community, he has undertaken many welfare activities for the development of the area for over a decade now. His most recent accomplishment was a successful vaccination drive – including one for special needs individuals, Covid testing camps, and food distribution programs for the BPL families in the vicinity during the pandemic. He is the the General Secretary of Spandana Nagarika Vedike in BTM layout and works closely with various government departments such as BBMP, Bescom and Bwssb for the development of his local community.
